Luis Salgado: A Journey from Broadway to Empowering the Next Generation

Luis Salgado’s life was transformed by theatre education, igniting a passion for art with a purpose. From the moment he achieved his dream of performing on Broadway, Salgado knew he wanted to give back and help others achieve their dreams. Together with some of the best Latine Broadway artists, he founded the non-profit organization R.Evolucion Latina.



Connecting and Inspiring at Lawrence High School

Luis Salgado’s work with schools like Lawrence High School (LHS) not only allows him to contribute to the community but also brings him closer to his roots. During his recent third visit to LHS, he described the student actors and teachers as marvelous, amazing, inspiring, and thrilling. These workshops are more than just teaching moments; they are opportunities for Salgado to connect with students who remind him of his younger self. He shares his life experiences and heart with them, providing a powerful and direct inspiration.

Empowering Through Pan-American School and TDF

Salgado’s efforts extend beyond LHS. He also collaborates with the Pan-American School and takes students to see performances through the Theatre Development Fund (TDF). These experiences are empowering for everyone involved, enriching their lives and expanding their artistic horizons.

Strengthening Artistry Through Teaching

Salgado believes that these teaching and mentoring experiences make his directing and choreographing work stronger and more complete. By listening to and witnessing the desires of the next generation, his heart evolves and expands in artistic potential.

A Judge and Director at the Jimmy Awards

Luis Salgado has also been a judge at the prestigious Jimmy Awards, which are like the Tony Awards for high school students. The Jimmy Awards recognize and celebrate the best in high school musical theatre across the United States. For the past two years, Salgado has served as both director and choreographer within the production, helping to shape the performances of young, talented actors.

The Vision for Luis Salgado Playhouse

Looking to the future, Salgado dreams of activating the Luis Salgado Playhouse. He envisions it as a space where he can nurture the next generation of performers, writers, and composers. This playhouse will be a place for creating new stories with both aspiring and professional artists, fostering a vibrant and collaborative artistic community.

La vida de Luis Salgado fue transformada por la educación teatral, encendiendo una pasión por el arte con propósito. Desde el momento en que logró su sueño de actuar en Broadway, Salgado supo que quería devolver el favor y ayudar a otros a alcanzar sus sueños. Conectando e Inspirando en la Escuela Secundaria de Lawrence

El trabajo de Luis Salgado con escuelas como la Escuela Secundaria de Lawrence (LHS) no solo le permite contribuir a la comunidad, sino que también lo acerca a sus raíces. Durante su reciente tercera visita a LHS, describió a los estudiantes y maestros de teatro de la escuela como maravillosos, asombrosos, inspiradores y emocionantes. Juez y Director en los Premios Jimmy

Luis Salgado también ha sido juez en los prestigiosos Premios Jimmy, que son como los Premios Tony para estudiantes de secundaria. Los Premios Jimmy reconocen y celebran lo mejor del teatro musical de secundaria en todo Estados Unidos. Durante los últimos dos años, Salgado ha servido como director y coreógrafo en la producción, ayudando a dar forma a las actuaciones de jóvenes y talentosos actores.

Luis Salgado: A Multi-Talented Force in Theater and Entertainment

Luis Salgado is an award-winning director, choreographer, performer, producer, and educator hailing from Puerto Rico and currently based in New York City. With a diverse portfolio spanning theater, film, television, and education, Salgado has made a significant impact on the global stage.

Professional Achievements:


Director/Choreographer: Salgado's directorial and choreographic talents have been showcased in acclaimed productions such as "On Your Feet! The Musical–The Story of Emilio & Gloria Estefan" (current National Tour), "AIDA" (STAGES St. Louis, MO), and "ON YOUR FEET! La historia de Emilio y Gloria Estefan ¡EN ESPAÑOL!" (GALA Hispanic Theatre, Washington, DC).


International Work: Salgado's artistic vision extends beyond the United States, with notable projects in Europe, Colombia, and Peru, demonstrating his ability to merge cultural influences with theatrical excellence.

Broadway Contributions: Salgado's Broadway credits include appearances in "Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown," "ROCKY," "In The Heights," and "On Your Feet!", showcasing his versatility as a performer.

Salgado's work in film and television includes roles in "American Gangster," "Dirty Dancing 2: Havana Nights," "Enchanted," and "Step Up 2: The Streets," where he also served as assistant choreographer.
