The Journey to Art With A Purpose

La semana pasada viví el primer día en el nuevo teatro  para ON YOUR FEET. Con este día, una nueva JORNADA de fantasías y aventuras dio inicio...  La expectativa de entrar a un nuevo hogar en un nuevo estado. El Oriental Theater en Chicago; es una belleza y la calidad de su gente se siente de inmediato. La muestra, LA APERTURA para el opening del show fue muy especial. El maravilloso y divertido director Jerry Mitchell, nos dio el regalo de verlo antes de iniciar NUESTRO TRABAJO y esto nos lleno de emoción. Me encantan los directores que son tan humanos como inteligentes; que inspiran y dan al proceso el respeto y regalan un sentido de pertenencia a todos. Esto me parece sano y productivo, más aún que aquellos que imponen todo y usan el efecto miedo o el efecto mini dios para lograr su objetivo. Jerry es alguien a emular en muchas de sus formas para con las relaciones de su equipo. Right now, I am exploring how to bring that sense of purpose to very "commercial" work. It think some people might see our idea of making Art with a Purpose as something very “profound” as if we are claiming to only make Art as social work. The truth is, that it comes with the territory as I am a Social advocate and founded the non-profit organization, R.Evolución Latina that has been successful in fulfilling it's mission for six years now. Salgado Productions is a business and we must do work that can employ people and fill other needs than the ones we see with RL. After all “some of my work must pay for the trees” the talented,  Graciella Daniel once said to me. This idea reinforces our goal of developing a healthy process  for a very commercial piece/venue.
