What does it take?

Dear friends, writers, actors, dancers, producers, musicians, Dear pueblo amado, my loving/passionate Latin people and all of the people I've met that love and understand the value of art,

What does it take???

The Happiest Song Plays Last
What does it take to make something new? To make something count? To go the distance, in ART?
Just like in the story of Rocky (NOW PLAYING ON BROADWAY) we, as artists, are all in the quest for a chance to be validated. To make the work reach out far into peoples hearts.

I see it coming... The time is here, Latinos are getting a great opportunity to be present and make our work as competive and valuable as any other. Is now when dreamers are standing up and following the path/journey of their dreams and all it takes is a supportive community to keep it going.

Wait; What does it take? COMMUNITY!!!!

How do we get OUR PEOPLE to fill the seats, to come and have a night at the theater and then invite others. Some times is hard, I know it is hard, I myself would love to assist all of the projects my friends, students and colleagues have going on. But I know it is not always easy with our own work, our life and the constant challenge of paying bills, but still I wonder...

What Does It Take?

What does it take to have full houses in Repertorio Español, Pregones Theater, Teatro SEA among many others great places for theater that tell our stories?

Right now, An amazing author has written a beautiful story. It is the final part of a trilogy that in my opinion, you don't necessarily need the background of the other two plays to enjoy the wonderful production of The Happiest Song Plays Last, currently playing at Second Stage Theater.

The humble, loving and talented Pulitzer prize winner Quiara Alegria Hudes is giving us an clear image into our own soul when longing for home and into our music as a places of spiritual comfort. This story lives in a fantastic metaphoric situation, that is engaging to all audiences. The lighting, direction, music, performance and a well written show, filled me with tears as much as it did with laughter (especially being a Puerto Rican who is in a constant debate over the value of our Boricua Medalla beer). And as I am asking my self, What does it take to get us there... I highly use this blog to INVITE YOU to see this show and the many other there are all around the city. LETS SUPPORT THEATER!

As in The Happiest Song Plays Last, There are great new shows, that are not as expensive or that are not always coming from well know films or best seller books but from the hearts of new writers looking for there own space in this world and that are really worth seeing.

I am asking my self What does it take? Because I am dreaming of Theater, of Theatrical ARTS being for ever around. I don't want us to fade as printing news papers are fading these days.

I try my best to make awareness of the energy and great experience that live theater is because truly, You never know you just might end up loving them or you might simply have a fantastic, wonderful theatre experience. So sure if you are in town see all the great big shows you see on the Marques of Broadway, but please take the time to also see the productions at smaller theatres like this one at 2nd Stage Theatre because great things are happening in them as well.

I want to know what you think because I am truly asking myself - What Does It Take?

Here is a video my organization RL did to celebrate and support this artist who we adore.
